Gin cocktails at Bar Abajo
I’m a single woman in my 30s, so I’ve had my fair share of first dates since I moved to Seattle four years ago. As a seriously food obsessed human being, I can’t help but pass judgement on someone based on where he wants to go for our first date (and I don’t think I’m alone in this). So, please allow me be your guide – these six restaurants are guaranteed to make any first date swoon.
Lecosho: You just can’t go wrong with Lecosho. It’s casual yet elegant – impressive without being pretentious. Lecosho has one of the best restaurant staffs in the city, they are knowledgable and personable, you’ll always feel taken care of without the hyper attentive-ness in some restaurants that I personally find annoying. European-influenced dishes made with the freshest Pacific Northwest ingredients available is what awaits you on their menu. And here’s a tip – try the burger – it’s one of the best in the city (available on their lunch and late night menu only).
Bar Abajo: Bar Abajo is the hip, new gin focused cold tapas bar that opened in the old Pintxo space in Belltown. Come here for unique craft gin and tonics and tinned fishes and small plates. The vibe here is laid back and the back patio is the perfect place to have a first date in the summertime.
Le Pichet: Le Pichet is super romantic. A tiny French bistro that serves classic French fare on First Avenue; take a date here and you are definitely getting lucky that night. Stroll through Pike Place Market after; sunsets in the Market in the summertime are magical. I just gave you the blueprints for a perfect first date.
The Pink Door: Another classic in Pike Place Market, Pink Door is a fantastic choice for a first date with an uber romantic terrace that offers lovely views of Elliott Bay. They feature burlesque and trapeze entertainment regularly which makes for a super cool experience. Try the lasagna, they boast the best in the city.
Bar Melusine & 6. Bateau: This one is a two parter because for this first date you’re going to start at Renee Erickson’s adorable, nautical themed Bar Melusine for oysters and cocktails and then have dinner next door at her farm focused steakhouse, Bateau. This is going to be one of your more expensive dates, but if you’re really trying to impress, trust me, this is the way to do it. You’ll select your own steak from a chalkboard of steaks that are labeled by farm, cut and weight at Bateau and once you’ve ordered, your steak is crossed off the board because – guess what? That’s the only one in the kitchen. Another really unique first date experience that is guaranteed to impress any food lover in this city.
